Euphemism and dysphemism exist in almost all languages. Euphemism is a word (or phrase) which people use in place of terms which are more disagreeable or offensive. Euphemisms are used to hide unpleasant ideas even when the term is not necessarily offensive (e.g. death). Dysphemism is the usage of an intentionally harsh word or expression instead of a polite one. Examples of euphemisms include: "passed away" for die, "restroom" for toilet room, "halitosis" for bad breath, "mentally challenged" for retarted, "funeral director" for mortician and "expecting" for pregnant. Examples of dysphemism include: "kick the bucket" for die, "dead tree edition" for the paper version of an online magazine, "tie the knot" for marry, "axle grease" for butter, "lose one's lunch" for vomit and some other dysphemisms that I cannot mention here since they are too offensive! I hope this topic will prove useful to everyone
